Rules

    Fifteenth Edition

    1. Purpose

    The Competitions, organized by "Consorzio Imprese Castelli Romani" Association within the ambit of I Castelli Animati international animated film festival, aim at awarding, showcasing, valorising and promoting animation and cross-media works, paying particular attention to their artistic quality and linguistic originality and to the use of innovative tools

    2. Participation

    Participation in the Competitions is free of cost and open to the following categories:
    1. animated short films, with a maximum running time of 40 minutes, realised using any animation technique which comes under the definition of animated products given by the Association International du Film d’Animation (ASIFA);
    2. commissioned works: commercials, educationals, special effects sequences for film fall into this category;
    3. diploma films, reserved to works realised by the students of Italian schools of animation;
    4. music videos, of Italian production (Musicanimata). This competition is realised in collaboration with PIVI, Independent Italian Videoclip Prize, of MEI (Meeting of Independent Labels) of Faenza (Italy).
    Works completed before 1 September 2008 will not be admitted to selection in any competition category.
    Works that have already participated in other festivals will be accepted.

    3. Deadlines for submission to selection and shipping of materials

    On-line registration must be carried out by 31 July 2010. All sections of the entry form must be completed: an email of confirmation with relative registration number will be generated automatically once registration has been carried out successfully.
    Once registered on-line, in order to complete submission and ensure participation in the selection process, the following materials must be sent to the Festival Office by 31 August 2010:
    • 1 copy of the film in DVD format (each DVD must contain one single work);
    • 2 photos per film in digital format (JPEG, TIFF, GIF);
    • Dialogue list (Italian or English) in digital format if the film is spoken, narrated or includes text. Works with Italian subtitles will also be accepted.
    Incomplete registration forms or submissions lacking materials may be excluded from selection.
    The materials submitted for selection to the Competition, DVD copies included, will not be returned, but will be stored in the Festival's archives and will be used for research purposes only.

    4. Selection

    The Festival Direction will select the works to take part in the Competitions.

    5. Screening

    A screening copy of the selected work(s) must be sent to the Festival Offices no later than 31 October 2010.
    Only the following formats will be accepted for screening: Betacam Sp PAL (no digital) or 35mm.

    6. Donation of works

    It is possible to donate to I Castelli Animati the professional format (35mm e Betacam) of works screened at the festival. Authors are requested to express their consent by completing the relative section of the Entry Form. Unless otherwise stated in the Entry Form, films will be returned as specified below.

    7. Shipping

    All materials and short films must be sent, by post or by courier, to the following address:

    Materials sent from non-European Community countries must be marked “no commercial value – for cultural purposes only”, and be accompanied by a pro-forma invoice for a value of less than US$30. All shipping expenses must be paid by the sender.

    After the festival, the screening copies of the works will be returned to the sender only upon specific request which must be sent to the Festival Office by email to castellianimati@castellianimati.it
    Shipping expenses for the restitution of the works will be covered by I Castelli Animati Festival.

    8. Juries

    Juries of prominent authors in the field of animation, cinema and the arts will judge the works in competition and will assign the awards.

    9. Awards

    The Juries with assign the following awards:
    1. Short films
      • I Castelli Animati Grand Prize to the best work in Competition;
      • Special Jury Prize;
      • Prize for Best First Film;
      • Prize for Best European Film;
      • Prize for the Best Italian Film;
      • Prize for Best Non-Narrative Film;
      The Jury may also assign three special mentions to underline specific qualities of three films in the Competition.
      • An Audience Prize will also be awarded
      The winning films of the International Competition, if of European production, will take part, by right, in the selection for the Cartoon D'Or award.
    2. Commissioned films
      • Best Educational;
      • Best Special Effects Sequence;
      • Best Commercial.
    3. Diploma films
      • Grand Prize Italian Schools of Animations;
      • Special Jury Prize.
      The Jury may also assign three special mentions to underline specific qualities of three films in the Competition.
      The winning films in the Italian Schools of Animation Competition will take part, by right, in the selection for the Cartoon D'Or award.
    4. Music Videos (Musicanimata)
      • Musicanimata I Castelli Animati – PIVI Award for Best Music Video
    5. "Fabrizio Bellocchio" Award for Social Content.
      All the films screened, in any category, will be judged by a Special Jury for the assignment of this award.

    10. Conditions

    Acceptance of the these regulations grants the organisers authorisation to screen the works within the ambit of I Castelli Animati Festival, in places connected to the Festival and in any other event chosen according to the unchallengeable judgment of the organisation.

    The organisers are granted authorisation to use excerpts from the work(s), images from the works and data related to the works in communications on and off line to the public of I Castelli Animati Festival.

    The authors of films in Competition agree to mention the assignment of any awards/acknowledgements received whenever promoting their works.

    Participation in I Castelli Animati Festival implies full acceptance of the above Regulations.
