    I Castelli Animati: the showcase for European animation of excellence.

    I Castelli Animati represents Italy in the circuit of the eight European festivals of excellence for Forum Cartoon, the event which assigns the Cartoon D’Or, considered the European Oscar for short animated films, and selects the new production projects worthy of European co-funding.
    The winners of the Competitions at I Castelli Animati, if of European production, go straight through to selection for the finalists of the Cartoon D’Or.
    The winner of the Cartoon D’Or 2005 was chosen from the films awarded at I Castelli Animati 2004; three of the five finalists came from I Castelli Animati, as did the winning film.

    I Castelli Animati: where creativity is champion

    The heart of the Festival are its prestigious competitions: the International Competition, with about 50 short films every year from all over the world; the Italian Schools Competition, for works created by Italy’s budding talents; the Web Competition – in collaboration with La Repubblica XL, for the best works made for Internet; the Commissioned Films Competition for commercials, educationals, special effects sequences; the Musicanimata Competition – in collaboration with PIVI (Italian Independent Prize for Music Videos), for the best music video; the Castelli Animati/Tutto Digitale Prize for home video. Each of the competitions has a qualified jury of artists in the field of animation and personalities from the world of culture and the arts.

    In the annual get-together for Italian schools of animation and the most prestigious international schools, presentations of the students works, discussion and workshops, with the participation of training institutes such as ENSAD (France) Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (Germany), La Poudrière (France), Bezalel Academy of Art (Israel) Bristol School of Animation (UK), Vancouver Film School (Canada), ESDIP (Madrid), Roopkala Kendro School of Animation (India), La Cambre (Belgium).
